Image of the Day: Never-used Ralph McQuarrie titles for The Empire Strikes Back

Artist Ralph McQuarrie is one of the most important facets of the entire Star Wars universe, as it was his transporting concept art depicting a galaxy far, far away that helped George Lucas ultimately sell Star Wars to 20th Century Fox's Alan Ladd Jr.

McQuarrie passed away in 2012 but his legacy as an instrumental part of the saga lives on in every new sequel and spinoff. Some intriguing new title designs have popped up showing some alternate, unused choices for The Empire Strikes Back that harken back to the old-fashioned sci-fi serial notions first employed by Lucas in his initial story concepts. I'm not so hot on the late '70s yellow, orange and red color schemes but dig the wrap-around style marquee logos.

Have a look at these titles via collector Gus Lopez and tell us if any of these never-used designs pique your interest.
