San Diego-based IDW Publishing isn't kicking back satisfied with its blooming catalog of enticing titles, they're forging a path to the future by planting new comic book seeds they hope sprout toward immortal success.
The publisher's latest offering is Dread Gods, a sci-fi fantasy book that bears the imprint of Ominous Comics, one of IDW's new publishing partners.
It's written by Ron Marz (Witchblade, Green Lantern), with art by Tom Raney (Uncanny X-Men, Thor: Lord of Asgard) and Ominous chief Bart Sears showcasing a classic pantheon of brutal gods and monsters. The 48-page, oversized premiere issue of Dread Gods lands in comic shops July 12 and features variant covers by ex-Superman artist Kenneth Rocafort and living legend Neal Adams.
Here's the official solicitation synopsis:
Ominous Press launches with the first of three limited series set in a science-fiction/fantasy universe of epic heroes and insidious villains. In DREAD GODS, gods in a fantasy world discover they're actually monsters in a post-apocalyptic landscape. Acclaimed creators Ron Marz and Tom Raney join with art master Bart Sears to usher in adventure like no other! Includes a backup tale by Bart Sears, and a wealth of added content.
"Telling your own stories, the way you want to tell them, is the dream of everyone creating comics,” said Sears. “Ominous Press partnering with IDW gives all of us the chance to do just that. These are the kind of epic stories we grew up on, the kind of stories that made us want to create comics in the first place."
