We’re teaming up with some seriously talented A-listers to develop Dan Simmons’ Hugo Award-winning best-selling novel Hyperion as an event series. Who? You might ask yourself as you sit down and dust off your 1989 first edition of the iconic sci-fi classic and begin making a casting wishlist: Oscar-nominated producer Bradley Cooper (American Sniper), Oscar-winning producer Graham King (The Departed, Argo) and Todd Phillips (The Hangover, Old School). That’s an interesting collection of auspicious talent to dive head-first into the hardcore SF title.

We know what your first question is going to be, and no, there aren’t, as of yet, any plans for Cooper to star in the event series, although for our money he’d make a pretty convincing Colonel Fedmahn Kassad. For those of you not in the know . . .

Set on the eve of Armageddon with the entire galaxy at war, Hyperion is the story of seven pilgrims who set forth on a voyage to seek the answers to the unsolved riddles of their lives. Each carries a desperate hope and a terrible secret -- while one may hold the fate of humanity in his hands. Imagine if Cloud Atlas was written by Keats and then edited by Jack Vance and you’ve got a pretty good idea what Hyperion is about.

Hyperion is one of a slew of high profile scripted that we’ve got in the works. Airing later this year is Childhood's End (based on the Arthur C. Clarke classic); The Expanse (based on the best selling series); and in 2016 we we have Hunters (based on the Alien Hunter series by Whitley Strieber), The Magicians (based on the Lev Grossman YA novels). Also in development, like Hyperion, is Aldous Huxley’s classic novel Brave New World, David Goyer’s Superman prequel, Krypton; and Incorporated, a futuristic espionage drama from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Yup, it’s a good time to be a fan of sweet sci-fi canon.
