This episode ("Sometimes in Life You Don't Get to Choose"), along with the Season 2 premiere ("Welcome to Your New Home"), mark the only two instances this season where the episode title doesn't appear as a line of dialogue in the episode. In this case, it was cut for time.
This episode marks a Stargate reunion of sorts for director Will Waring, creator Joseph Mallozzi and actress Jodelle Ferland (Five), who last worked together on the Stargate: Atlantis episode "Harmony," in which 12-year-old Jodelle played the titular character of the same name.
Director Will Waring's signature pineapple (which appears in almost every episode he's ever directed) appears late in this episode sitting atop a tray being carried by a passing servant. All aboard the Pineapple Express!
Like the reveal of the crew's true identities at the end of the Season 1 premiere and the reveal of Six as the mole at the end of the Season 1 finale, the bloody palace coup was planned as far back as 2008 when the show was being developed. It's all part of the master plan!
The final line, "My name is not Four. I am Ishida Ryo, Emperor of Zairon," mirrors Two's response to The Android at the beginning of Season 1, Episode 2: "Don't call me that. No computer file is going to tell me who I am. Call me Two."
