Steve, whowas rated as the most extreme escape artist by Ripley's Believe It Or Not, has a big event coming up and wants to make his escape a really fantastic show. But first, he has to uncover the truth about two pairs of handcuffs that his good friend Bob Kotsopoulos brings to him. The claim is that both pairs (one called Darby and one called Froggett, after their respective manufacturers) are from the Victorian era, but the Froggetts were custom-made (or "gimmicked") for none other than Harry Houdini.
Houdini was Steve's childhood hero, so owning a pair of his handcuffs is a dream, but in order to make sure they're authentic, he'll first have to take them to an expert. His close friends Dorothy and Dick, co-directors of a Houdini museum, introduce him to Stephen Moore, who says that one pair - the Darbys - are fake, but he's 90-95% sure that the Froggetts are authentic based on the tools used to make the various markings on the cuffs.
While Steve is there, Dorothy and Dick tell him that they're planning a ceremony to return Houdini's bust to his grave, and they want Steve to be a part of it. A group of friends processes to the grave while carrying the bust, and when they place it on the headstone, an eagle - a longtime feature of Houdini's act - appears. The acolytes feel the spirit of Houdini is with them.
Lloyd continues his search for the origins of Bob's handcuffs, by bringing them to Lloyd Johnston, a blacksmith. He confirms the earlier assessment that the Darbys are not Victorian, and the Froggetts are. Steve meets with Bob and tells him the news, and though Bob wanted $6,000 for both pairs of cuffs, he'll take $3,000 for just the one pair.
With that out of the way, Steve can now prepare for his escape. As a device with spinning drills and blades creeps toward his face, he'll have to undo his thumb cuffs, use them to pick the lock on his handcuffs, then loose himself from a neck binding cage - all as his teenage daughter and a crowd of fans looks on. He manages to get out of it in the nick of time, and his daughter, Shaina, can finally uncover her eyes now that her dad is safe.
Steve gets a close call on one of his death defying escapes.
Steve takes the axe to get it tested for authenticity.
