While Sarah is examining the apple varietals in the orchard (or pretending to; really she's trying to talk to Alan, who orders her and the others to go to the dock and pray the Coast Guard rescues them in time, though he doesn't say in time for what), Kyle is getting the lowdown from a flirty young lady on the Abbey's communal child-rearing practices and how most of the members have been there "for generations." Just as we're wondering how the community doesn't get inbred if it's been there for hundreds of years, the lady takes Kyle into the storage room (see? we told you about that place!), strips down, and tries to, um, access his genetic differences. He's not having it, but Flirty doesn't seem like she's content with that.
