Lilly Kilvert is a two-time Academy Award nominated Production Designer, and has designed numerous notable films such as To Live and Die in L.A., In the Line of Fire, The Siege, The American President, and Valkyrie. She received her first Oscar nomination for her work on Legends of the Fall, and her second for The Last Samurai. She was also nominated for an Art Director's Guild Award for Excellence in Production Design for her work on The Crucible and then, several years later, she received another Guild nomination for The Last Samurai. Over the years, she has worked with many top tier directors, including Ed Zwick, Rob Reiner, and Kathryn Bigelow.
Born in Rhode Island, Lilly grew up in Nantucket. She attended Bard College in New York, where she studied art, physics and photography. Lilly first became interested in set design while she was building sets for magazine layouts. On her very first film, Alambrista, directed by Robert Young, Lilly did much of the set design, wardrobe, makeup, painting and special effects makeup for the film. After working on small films in New York, she moved to Los Angeles to work on mainstream feature films. Lilly has spent the past year consulting on James Gray's newest action/thriller at New Regency and previously designed the Luck pilot for Michael Mann.
