When the first promos for Gotham surfaced, it was billed as the show that would reveal the beginnings of all the Batman figures everyone knows about. These are the characters who've populated movie screens since 1989 and hit it big with non-comics readers through stuff like Batman: The Animated Series and the Arkham videogame franchise, characters like the Penguin, Catwoman, the Riddler and, of course, the Joker. The show's gotten more adventurous since then, with characters like Copperhead and Red Hood making the season-one roster of villains, but it's only scratched the surface of the strange and endless roster that is the Batman rogues gallery.
It's not that the show can't make things like Penguin's rise to power interesting, mind you, but as a comic book fan, I'd love to see more of the comic book world make its way to Gotham. I'd like to see some of the stranger, B- and C- and even D-list Bat-villains make it into the series, not just because I enjoy them as a comics reader, but because it would be fun to see how they're molded to the show's sensibility. In the same way that Arrow went from a straightforward vigilante drama to a show with the League of Assassins and the Suicide Squad in it over the course of a couple of years, I'd like to see Gotham grow into its own twisted version of a comic book microcosm.
So, with that in mind, here are 11 lesser-known Batman villains, ranging from terrifying assassins to silly gimmick murderers, who we'd love to see on the show. And, as always, feel free to add your own choices in the comments.
