It’s finally here: The first trailer for the Wachowskis’ new sci-fi epic Jupiter Ascending, which looks like it could be one of the biggest movies in years. Want to see?
Zipping between the mean streets of the inner-city U.S., to the far-flung halls of alien worlds, this flick is nothing if not ambitious. Channing Tatum doesn’t look too ridiculous in his starring role as a military hunter, while Mila Kunis is lovely as always as a future-goddess.
It definitely has the epic look of the duo’s recent Cloud Atlas, along with some of the wild action they made famous in The Matrix series. So, yeah, this could work.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.
Yeah, it’s a pretty heady pitch — but the Wachowskis have tried heavier material before (with mixed results, admittedly, late in the Matrix franchise) — and if nothing else, this looks like a legit FX extravaganza.
The film is set to open July 25, 2014. What do you think?
