Scarlett Johansson as a sultry female alien with a voracious sexual appetite? We're ready to line up at the box office already.
As previously reported, the Iron Man 2 and Avengers star signed up last year to play a female alien named Isserley in an adaptation of the Michel Faber novel Under the Skin. In the book, Isserley comes to Earth disguised as a human bombshell who lures actual humans to their deaths in remote corners of the countryside.
There's a lot more to this truly strange novel than that, but Johansson's portrayal is the main selling point for the film version. The independent movie is now shooting in Scotland, and the first photos of Johansson as Isserley have appeared online.
The movie is being directed by Jonathan Glazer, who helmed the offbeat gangster flick Sexy Beast, which starred Ben Kingsley, and the very odd reincarnation drama Birth, which featured Nicole Kidman.
The movie's on track for a 2012 release, and if Glazer and Johansson get it right, this could be one of the most original sci-fi films of the year. In the meantime, however, feast your eyes on lovely Scarlett as the tempting, dangerous Isserley.
Will this combination of star and subject matter plant Under the Skin on your must-see list?
