The best part about about this new promo for Universal's The Mummy is the fact that we don't have to listen to The Rolling Stones "Paint it Black" in a movie trailer ONE MORE TIME! Oh, and the leering vampire skull in a glass lab container is pretty cool, too.
Dropping directly in the shadow of the second full trailer for this wrapped-up horror remake comes a new one-minute promo centering on Dr. Henry Jekyll's Prodigium, a secret research organization that seeks out, contains and banishes monsters from the face of the Earth. Jekyll is played with an aristocratic air of authority by Russell Crowe, and it's in these scenes that we spy a famous fanged skull drowned in a beaker of preservation fluid.
Since this will be a shared universe reboot, this is most likely tied into the King of Vampires himself, Count Vlad Dracula. We also get a bit more of Sofia Boutella's Princess Ahmanet and her paranormal powers unchained, including a final shot of what seems to be Tom Cruise's iris splitting in two ala his dusty, dead nemesis.
Should we dig up the official synopsis again? Here goes:
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
Take a peek at this fresh preview and let us know if you plan on shuffling on off to see director Alex Kurtzman's The Mummy when it arrives in theaters June 9.
