It’s no surprise that Disney is looking to leverage its billion-dollar investment in the Star Wars franchise, and it’s only a matter of time before the universe heads to the small screen. Turns out, Lucasfilm is already meeting with ABC about possibilities.
While speaking at the ABC panel at the Television Critics Association press tour, ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey confirmed the network would “absolutely” love to air a Star Wars television show, and there are (very, very early) conversations going on to make it happen. Nowhere near execution, to be clear, but those talks are happening. So, just give it time. Give it time.
Here’s his exact comment, via Deadline:
“As a fan, I would absolutely love to say yes,” ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey said about a Star Wars series during her executive panel today at TCA. “We have had conversations, and we will continue to have conversations with Lucasfilm. It would be wonderful to extend the franchise.”
So what form might a live-action series take? There’s always the stack of scripts from the shelved Star Wars Underworld live action TV series (which have already been pilfered by other projects), but you’d imagine ABC would be looking for something a bit fresher. Considering Rogue One and Rebels have all focused on wholly new additions and corners of the universe, it stands to reason a potential TV series could follow the same approach.
What would you like to see from a Star Wars TV series?
