When Henry Cavill is ready to hang up his cape and costume, there's an actor who's ready and willing to take the job.
We don't know how long Cavill intends to play Superman beyond the Man of Steel sequel and the (presumed) Justice League movie, but you know that Warner Bros. Pictures will want to keep the character on the screen as long as possible.
Cue British actor Idris Elba, who was asked by Vanity Fair in a new video interview if there was a superhero he would like to play some day. Elba doesn't answer directly, but reveals that he recently DJed wearing a Superman costume and got a lot of compliments (the italics are from Vanity Fair).
Elba doesn't spell out his meaning beyond that, but gives a little tilt of his head and stares at the camera as if to say, "Catch my drift?"
The Pacific Rim star does have comic-book movie experience, having played Heimdall -- quite well -- in Marvel's two Thor movies (he was also in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, but the less said about that, the better). Elba certainly has the presence, build and gravitas to play the Man of Steel, and as anyone who has seen him in The Wire can attest, his acting skills are top-notch.
And yes, we know he's British, but that didn't stop Cavill. And Superman is an extraterrestrial anyway, right? Check out the interview below.
