Things have been relatively quiet in regard to Marvel’s potential Agent Carter series, but now some new intel has leaked out thanks to pilot season.
As part of Deadline’s early pilot wrap-up, they note that Agent Carter is still very much in contention for a pickup at ABC and could skip the pilot process and head straight to series if the network opts to give it a shot. The script has gotten rave reviews from those who’ve seen it, though it seems the so-so ratings for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. might be giving the network pause.
But now there is apparently “talk” of a pickup for Agent Carter, which would tie into a second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., with Agent Carter potentially bridging the scheduling gap between the spring and fall portions of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s second season. So, for Marvel fans, there’d essentially be no dead scheduling period breaking the series in half. We like that idea.
Considering the absolute awesomeness of that Agent Carter one-shot short that inspired the concept, and Hayley Atwell in general, we’d love to see this series get a shot. There's also the fact that it’d track the early days of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s creation, so you'd think it'd make for an obvious match with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC’s schedule.
The network is still holding an option for Atwell to star in the series (the initial option expired, but has been extended while ABC mulls the decision), so we’d guess there should be some news soonish on this one, possibly when word breaks on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s renewal or cancellation. Best guess: The ratings for the final few episodes of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s first season could be make-or-break.
If ABC does pass, here’s hoping Marvel will tap that Netflix connection to keep this one alive. What do you think? Would you watch an Agent Carter series?
