When Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns later this month, things will have changed dramatically for our team. Daisy (Chloe Bennet) will be settling more comfortably in her new leadership role as Quake, with Lincoln (new series regular Luke Mitchell), aka Sparkplug, joining her as part of her and Director Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) new Secret Warriors initiative, the creation of which showrunner Jedd Whedon says will be "a slow burn."
But that's not all.
It's been three months, and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) is still missing. Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) is now the head of HYDRA and, thanks to the events of the Season 2 finale, Inhumans are popping up all over the globe. The show will also introduce Lash (Matthew Willig) for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the new villain for Season 3.
In an extensive interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunners Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen say that comic book fans should get ready for a slightly different version of Lash compared to his comic book counterpart, hinting that the Inhuman could even be more of a monster.
WHEDON: I would just say that we’re doing our own take on it. There will be some elements from the comics for sure, but as we always do, we want people to not know what’s coming, so we’re changing it up a little bit.
TAUCHAREON And on a very basic level, we were interested in putting a monster in the mix, because he is not human and his looks are pretty crazy and scary. We wanted to put our team up against something like that.
WHEDON: We have two Inhumans [Bennet and Luke Mitchell] who are regulars on our show, and they both are fairly attractive.
TANCHAROEN: They look like they can be on the cover of Vogue.
WHEDON: Right. It looks like if they had a baby together, that baby would rule the planet. We want to also show the other side of the change that bad things can happen.
As for other Inhumans from the comics (besides Lash, that is) appearing on the show’s third season, both Whedon and Tancharoen revealed it was possible that we'll get to see some familiar faces. "You might," said Tancharoen. With Jed Whedon adding: "Always might, yes."
Which Inhuman from Marvel Comics would you like to see make their debut on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Season 3? Are you excited for the arrival of Lash in the MCU?
