Gwen Stacy is getting some competition for Peter Parker's attention. The folks behind The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are bringing in Mary Jane Watson. The perky redhead is arguably Peter/Spider-Man's most famous love interest. See what acclaimed actress could fill her shoes.
Variety is reporting that Golden Globe nominee Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) is in negotiations to be the new M.J. She's currently Sony's top choice for the role, which was previously played by Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. The news couldn't have come at a better time, considering that Woodley's ABC Family series, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, just got canceled.
The studio is also eyeing an actor to take over the role of Harry Osborn. He's Peter's best bud, who eventually goes to the dark side. He could be joined by Electro, who's rumored to be one of the sequel's villains. At the moment, none of these castings have been confirmed.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will once again be directed by Marc Webb and star Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.
What do you think? Would Woodley make a good Watson?
