Amazon's next pilot season debuts on March 17, and two of their projects should be of particular interest to sci-fi fans.
The one that holds the most promise is arguably the high-concept space colony drama Oasis, which stars Game of Thrones alum Richard Madden as a chaplain sent to help establish a new human colony on an alien planet. Once there, he finds something that will test not only his faith, but "life as we know it." The series is based on the acclaimed novel The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber. Much like Battlestar Galactica before it, Oasis looks to take an interesting angle on the intersection of science fiction and religion. It could definitely be one to keep an eye on.
The half-hour dark comedy The Legend of Master Legend is another project that shows potential. The pilot focuses on a man named Frank Lafount, who patrols the streets of Las Vegas as the homemade superhero Master Legend. Think of it as Kick-Ass with a grown-up, as Lafount tries to balance the challenges of his "real" life with his super-mission. The series stars John Hawkes, Dawnn Lewis, Shea Whigham and Anjelika Washington.
The pilots drop on March 17, and like with previous pilot seasons, Amazon will pick up whichever projects get the best feedback. Be sure to check them out and leave a review.
