Next week on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., another proud Joss Whedon alum arrives.
We all know about Whedon's habit of re-uniting with old collaborators on new projects, and Amy Acker seems to be a collaborator he's got a particular soft spot for. Acker first joined the Whedon Stock Company, if you will, when she stole all our hearts as Winifred "Fred" Burkle on Angel, and has since appeared in Whedon's Dollhouse, The Cabin in the Woods and Much Ado About Nothing. So it wasn't exactly surprising to learn that she'd be making a guest appearance on the Whedon-co-created Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series as the much-mythologized cellist from Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) past.
(Oh, and a little bit of trivia for you Whedonites: With this, her fifth collaboration with Whedon, Acker will tie her Angel co-star Alexis Denisof's record for most appearances in Whedon projects by an actor.)
Now, in the wake of last night's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode, "Providence," we've got a 30-second promo spot for next week's episode, "The Only Light in the Darkness," and as we were promised, this episode features the first appearance of Acker on the show. In the promo below, we get to see her both conversing with Agent Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and getting a little bit of concerned adoration from Coulson, who's very conscious of the danger she's in while he and his team are still labeled as fugitives.
Acker's not the only reason to check out the promo, though. It also features our first glimpse of the Marvel supervillain Blackout (Patrick Brennan) in action (yay for more people with powers on this show!) and Skye (Chloe Bennet) coming to a shocking realization about Ward (Brett Dalton). Check it out below.
"The Only Light in the Darkness" airs next Tuesday at 8/7C on ABC.
