Did you know that Peter Pan and Alice and were siblings? That’s the premise of Come Away, an upcoming film that will serve as a prequel story for Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. Come Away is also close to lining up two big stars to portray Alice and Peter’s parents: Angelina Jolie (Laura Croft: Tomb Raider, Maleficent) and David Oyelowo (The Cloverfield Paradox, Star Wars: Rebels).
Via Deadline, Jolie and Oyelowo are currently in negotiations to headline Come Away, which will put a spotlight on Peter and Alice’s lives before they went to Neverland and Wonderland, respectively. According to the report, the death of Peter and Alice’s older brother is the tragedy that tears their family apart. In the wake of their shared loss, Alice and Peter will attempt to save their parents from despair as their choices pull them further from reality and into the realm of imagination.
Come Away will be the live-action directorial debut of Brenda Chapman, the co-writer and director of Pixar’s Brave. The script was written by Marissa Kate Goodhill, and the film is expected to begin filming in the United Kingdom before moving production to Los Angeles. Because Jolie is currently filming Maleficent 2, she isn’t expected to arrive at the Come Away set until the fall.
Aside from the original tales by Carroll and Barrie, the best known iterations of Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan are the animated movies released by Walt Disney Pictures. SYFY WIRE recently spoke with Kathryn Beaumont, the actress who lent her voice to Alice in Wonderland’s title character and Wendy Darling in Peter Pan. You can watch that interview in the video below!
