A girl and her dog travel cross-country fighting mean-spirited talking animals, a hit kids’ TV show about team of undersea explorers is getting a pair of films, and a former football star is launching an animated series in this development round-up.

First up, Legendary Entertainment has bought the global film rights to Marguerite Bennett’s dystopian comic book series Animosity, a Legendary spokesperson confirmed to SYFY WIRE. The series, published by AfterShock Comics, follows the adventures of Jesse, an 11-year-old girl, and her dog, Sandor, as they go on a cross-country trek to San Francisco in a world where newly intelligent animals have attained the power of speech and fight humanity (as well as one other).

AfterShock Media president Lee Kramer and CEO Jon Kramer are signed on to produce the movie, while Jon Silk from Legendary will oversee the project. No release date has been set yet.

Next, Silvergate Media is making two movies based on its hit children’s series Octonauts, Variety is reporting. The studio will make the films with Wanda Studio’s kids entertainment division.

Octonauts is an animated series for preschoolers that follows a group of animal aquatic adventurers. The two 75-minute Octonauts movies are being produced by Silvergate. Wanda Kids will handle the distribution and theatrical launch in China. Netflix has picked up the films for global distribution.

The first film, The Ring of Fire, will be released in 2020. The second film is The Underwater Caves of Sac Atun, for which Silvergate has not yet announced a release date.

Silvergate recently opened an office in China. These new films are part of the company’s plans to develop new properties for the local Chinese market that will also be released globally.

Finally, retired National Football League tight end Martellus Bennett is unveiling a new children’s animated series.

The former football star has announced that the new series, The Fantastical Adventures of A.J., will be released later this month. The Fantastical Adventures of A.J. is based on the children’s books written and illustrated by Bennett: Hey A.J., It’s Saturday and Hey A.J., It’s Bedtime. The series is inspired by Bennett’s own interactions with his young daughter.
