As if it weren't stuffed with plenty of classic characters already, X-Men: Days of Future Past is adding one more to the mix.
MTV News caught up with actor Evan Jonigkeit at the premiere of the HBO series Girls, which happens to star Jonigkeit's girlfriend Zosia Mamet, and asked him about his work in the movie. While Jonigkeit was cast in Days of Future Past a while ago, his exact role was never specified.
Well, either he's feeling strong because the movie has (mostly) finished shooting or he's been told he can speak out a little, because Jonigkeit finally revealed which mutant he'll be in the film -- and it's a younger version of Toad, the long-tongued reptilian bad guy first played by Ray Park way back in 2000 in the original X-Men movie.
Jonigkeit said about participating in the film, "It's a really incredible thing to be a part of ... [Days of Future Past] is huge and really exciting. I was so stoked to be working with all of these people. It was a really crazy experience."
The actor also confirmed that his portrayal of Toad will more or less be the character's origin story, saying, "It's a generation story of how he came to be. It's really cool." While he wouldn't say how closely he'll resemble Park's Toad, he hinted, "It's darker. I would say it's a darker tone."
The fact that Toad is in the movie -- along with Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) -- indicates that Days of Future Past may also show how Magneto (Michael Fassbender/Ian McKellen) establishes the cinematic Brotherhood of Evil Mutants that we saw in the first X-Men movie and lead the entire series full circle.
Expect more to be revealed as the movie's May 23 release date draws near, but what do you make of the return of Toad?
