There’s something strange in the neighborhood, and it’s the upcoming Ghostbusters comic book series.

Ghostbusters: Answer the Call is an all-new radiation blast of adventures conjured up by writer Kelly Thompson (Hawkeye) and artist Corin Howell (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), who have both previously haunted the world of Ghostbusters comics. Within, Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy in the film), Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), Jillian Holzmann (Kate McKinnon) and Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) will be back to bust every non-corporeal entity in New York City.

“I'm so excited to get to bring this first solo adventure for the ladies of ‘Ghostbusters’ to the world of comics,” said Thompson. “Expect lots of supernatural hijinks and ‘save the world’ shenanigans.”

The phantom-fighting four have all proven they’re not afraid of no ghosts in previous Ghostbusters comics. What makes this one as exciting as another call to headquarters is that it’s the first to follow their investigations from the most recent movie.

Abby, Erin, Holtzman, and Patty will take off in What Dreams May Come with what is supposed to be a routine call to vaporize a Class III ghost morphing into a monstrous encounter with a Class VII specter. New spooks will keep appearing out of nowhere in subsequent issues.

Even paranormal problems won’t cast a shadow over the team’s spirited sense of humor. Thompson revealed her favorite part of writing the new series into existence was that she was able to find laugh opportunities lurking in every sewer, dark alley, and abandoned building. Not to mention that bespectacled eye-candy Kevin is back.

“These ladies are magic together, and I love tapping into their crazy creativity,” said Thompson.

There couldn’t have been a better duo to put proton packs back into action than her and Howell, who were both electrified at the chance to revive Ghostbusters when IDW decided who they were gonna call.

With a main cover drawn by Howell and variants by Love is Love’s Elsa Charretier and Strawberry Shortcake’s Valentina Pinto, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call No. 1 will creep onto bookstore shelves this October. No word yet on whether Cthulhu makes an appearance.
