Disney's movie preview for 2018 didn’t just have the first nugget of Lucasfilm-approved information about Solo. The studio has a boatload of projects coming out this year, one of which is director Peyton Reed’s rom-com follow-up to Ant-Man — and now we can see Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly in full Ant-Man and the Wasp regalia.
There’s certainly been iterations of the costume’s reveal - first in teasers and mid-credit clips, then without helmet - but now we see Lilly’s Hope van Dyne don all but the comic costume’s wings as she readies herself for insect-based battle. When we’ll get pictures of Michelle Pfeiffer, who plays the original Wasp, Janet van Dyne, is tantalizingly unknown.
The synopsis accompanying the picture reads:
Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.
These secrets will be tackled by the team-up’s new, sleeker costumes with far fewer gizmos and mechanisms than in the previous film or Captain America: Civil War. Whether this means new powers come with the updated look or if the aesthetic will just err on the side of Spider-Man’s minimalism remains to be seen, but these heroes will turn up in Infinity War first. A lot could happen between now and then, let alone in between films.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is scheduled for a July 6 release.
