So, if you close your eyes and think of quirky witches around, you’re going to eventually land on Samantha Stevens. The pleasant but feisty heroine of Bewitched (which ran from 1964-1972) was played by actress Elizabeth Montgomery, born on this day in 1933. Montgomery also starred in the title role of The Legend of Lizzie Borden in 1975 and was an advocate for gay rights and AIDS education until her death from cancer in 1995. Interestingly,  another quirky and politically active witch celebrating a birthday? Hermione Granger! Emma Watson, whose work with the UN and for women’s causes was born on this day in 1990.

In “What shows should I be revisiting?” news – how long has it been since you watched Defiance? It was on this day in 2015 that the show premiered and viewers were warned of the dangers of terraforming while first glimpsing characters that would live on for three seasons. Syfy.com still has episodes up, and if it’s been a while since you took a spin through the show, get started again.

Tomorrow: Paging Doctors Hofmann and Tam.
