Tempe, Ariz., won the contest to host the world premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine next Monday night, narrowly defeating Davis, Calif., 20th Century Fox announced on Monday.

The announcement caps two weeks of voting during which entrants launched campaigns for their hometowns. The list had been narrowed to 10 cities before Tempe prevailed.

Tempe accumulated the most "Xs," narrowly beating out Davis in a hard-fought battle to bring home the Hollywood event.

The event was the idea of star Hugh Jackman, who wanted to express his appreciation to the fans by hosting the premiere, in which he will bring the movie and a few of his "friends and enemies" from the film to Tempe.

In addition to the stars and filmmakers, the event will have all the other trappings of a mega-Hollywood premiere. Wolverine opens in theaters on May 1.
