Arnold Schwarzenegger says that not only will he appear in Terminator 5, but he knows what role he is playing and when the movie start shooting!
Speaking with The Arnold Fans, Schwarzenegger was asked about his involvement with the long-in-development fifth entry in the cyborg franchise. It's been known for a while that he would be back, but there was some question about whether he was simply too old to return to his signature role as the T-800 itself. This is what he had to say:
I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star as the Terminator, which we start shooting in January.
Whoa! So not only did Arnold just confirm that he'll be playing the Terminator itself for a fourth time (they used a CG likeness of him in Terminator Salvation), but he claims that the movie starts shooting in January!
We're going to throw a little cold water on that, however. First of all, Terminator 5 doesn't have a studio backing it yet, although Paramount Pictures is apparently negotiating with AnnaPurna Pictures -- which owns the series -- to pick up distribution.
But more importantly, the movie does not have a director yet. There is a script in the works by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier, who also happens to be a director. But if you're going to hire the guy who directed Drive Angry to helm the new Terminator movie ... well, that doesn't make us feel very good, does it?
So while we're not sure if that January start date is realistic, Arnold is apparently very certain that he wil be donning the leather jacket and shades once again. Or will he play the role through motion capture? Stay tuned ...
