Aside from the hood himself, the first season of The CW’s Arrow was pretty light on DC heroes. But that might be changing in year two.
Co-star Colton Haynes, who plays Roy Harper on the hit series, told MTV that fans can expect “a few” heroes to pop up once the show returns in the fall. He didn’t offer much as far as details, but the implication sounds really, really fun:
"A few of the most important DC characters are going to be coming to Arrow, and quite possibly working in a team together."
So who could it be? We’ve already heard from producer Marc Guggenheim that they’ll be bringing some classic DC baddies next season, but Haynes seems to be referring to the good guys. The most popular fan-wish is for Green Lantern, most recently played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 big-screen flop. But considering DC’s plans to launch a Justice League film, and the fantastical nature of the character, it seems like a long shot.
But that doesn’t mean Arrow couldn’t have its own version of the Justice League with some less mainstream characters rounding out the roster. Batman and Superman might be off the table, but as Smallville proved in its last few seasons, you can pull some guys off the DC bench and still have a pretty solid team.
With a full season on the books, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise for the writers to start expanding the universe in a big way next season. They’ve more than escaped the superheroic shadow of Smallville with the hyper-focused first season, and now would be as good a time as any to start factoring in some of the elements that helped make its network predecessor so much fun.
What do you think? Would you like to see Arrow join up with a few other DC heroes to clean up Starling City?
