Amidst the glorious insanity that was this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, some casting news about the fifth season of Arrow has emerged.
If you’ve seen the first Season 5 footage, then you might have noticed that the show will introduce DC Comics vigilante Ragman. The role will be played by Blindspot alum Joe Dinicol. Here’s what Entertainment Weekly had to say about Rory Regan’s (aka Ragman) arrival on Oliver Queen's home turf: “Fresh from a personal tragedy, Rory hopes to find answers in Star City, where he ultimately crosses paths with Green Arrow (Stephen Amell).”
Dinicol's first appearance will be in the second episode, where he will be joining some new and returning cast members, including: Chad L. Coleman as new big bad Tobias Church, Madison McLaughlin as Evelyn Sharp, Tyler Ritter as Detective Malone, Rick Gonzalez as DC Comics vigilante Wild Dog, Carly Pope as a new Star City reporter and Josh Segarra as the vigilante known as … Vigilante.
In the pages of DC Comics, Ragman was a mystic vigilante and superhero created in 1976 by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert. Originally a Vietnam vet, Rory Regan wore a suit made up of rags, and the character could tap into physical powers of the corrupted souls that made up his suit in order to increase his strength, speed and stamina many times over. Having defeated an enemy, Ragman could acquire new souls (but only the really evil ones) by absorbing them within the suit. The character has often been compared to another nighttime vigilante: Batman.
Season 5 of Arrow will premiere on Oct. 5 on The CW.
