The news just broke that the former Teen Wolf star has reached a deal to reprise his role of Roy Harper, aka Arsenal, when the show returns next year. Here’s what the Arrowverse series’ executive producers said in a joint statement:
“We’re very fortunate and excited to welcome back Colton to Arrow. While we’ve always enjoyed Colton’s returns to the show, we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him return as a proper series regular and we’re very excited about all the creative opportunities Roy Harper’s return affords us.”
Making his debut on Arrow back in Season 1, Roy ultimately became part of Team Arrow as the vigilante known as Arsenal. He was a series regular right up until the end of the third season when he pretended to be the Arrow in order to clear Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) name. Faking his own death, he left Star City only to return for a one-episode guest-starring stint during Season 4 when he was blackmailed by Felicity’s (Emily Bett Rickards) dad, the Calculator, into working for him.
Last we saw the character was in this season’s “The Thanatos Guild,” when he rode off into the sunset with Thea (Willa Holland) and Nyssa al Ghul (Katrina Law) on a quest to destroy three long-lost Lazarus Pits that ended a short, two-episode arc.
Since Holland is now seemingly done for good with Arrow, the question that comes to mind is what makes Roy come back to Star City without her in the first place. Also, with the show now bursting at the seams with vigilantes (Green Arrow, Spartan, Wild Dog, Black Canary, Mr. Terrific), what does his return mean for some of the other characters? Will Season 7 of Arrow thin its cast to make room for Haynes?
About his newly reinstated status as series regular, Haynes said: “I could not be happier to return to my role as Roy Harper alongside my Arrow family.” Are you excited to see Roy Harper coming back to Star City full time for Season 7?
