It already seems like ages ago that the Game of Thrones Season 7 finale took us by storm, and there's an inestimable emptiness left in its wall-crumbling wake.
HBO feels our anguish and has released the latest installment in its behind-the-scenes peeks of particular episodes, called The Game Revealed. This chapter targets the fourth episode, "The Spoils of War," which features the Stark reunion, Sophie Turner's Sansa and Maisie Williams' Arya in the Winterfell family crypt, the Arya vs. Brienne duel, and the blazing Loot Train Attack.
The Game Revealed debuts each Monday for the next three weeks on HBO Now, HBO Go, HBO On Demand, and other streaming portals, focusing on a different episode in succession. Today we have a pair of clips released by HBO from the entire E4 program.
First, listen to director Matt Shakman on the excitement of bringing together these long-lost factions of the Stark clan and the two actors' attempts to stay serious during the takes.
Then a second clip for the full segment centers on the training rehearsals starring Arya and Needle in one corner and Brienne of Tarth and her sparring sword in the other, as stunt coordinator Rowley Irlam explains the details of the fight choreography.
One disappointing aspect is seeing that stunt doubles were used during the scenes, with the actors' real faces digitally superimposed in post-production. Have a look:
