Ashley Eckstein knows what's next for Ahsoka Tano, her fan-favorite Star Wars character, but that doesn't mean she'll even so much as give fans a hint about that future.
"Now I do know what's next for Ahsoka," Eckstein told SYFY WIRE's Lisa Granshaw at San Diego Comic-Con. "For so long I didn't know, so I could honestly say, 'I don't know!' Dave Filoni has come out and said publicly that we will see Ahsoka again in [Star Wars] Rebels, so I can say that! In my opinion, there's still a lot left to tell with Ahsoka."
While the actress couldn't say anything more than that, her enthusiasm for the characters, who she's now been voicing for a decade, hasn't waned at all in that time. When she was asked to voice Ahsoka in the Clone Wars era and again in the new series of shorts Star Wars Forces of Destiny, she said, "What kind of question is that? Of course I'm interested!" She loves revisiting the era, as there are "so many behind-the-scenes stories" that remain to be told about Ahsoka during that time.
Speaking of Forces of Destiny, she's thrilled to see the women of Star Wars get the spotlight.
"We're here to say that these properties are for everyone. Having shows like this that bring more awareness to female characters, to female fans, is really important," Eckstein said.
As for Ahsoka's impact on the franchise, she recognizes that her inclusion in The Clone Wars was nothing short of "groundbreaking."
"We almost forget that in 2008, Ahsoka Tano sent shockwaves -- the lead is a 14-year-old girl!"
