August 15 in Sci-Fi History: J-Law and The Fleck

Today we wish a happy birthday to some actors who've done pretty well for themselves. First, Jennifer Lawrence turns 27 today.

Born in Indian Hills, Kentucky, Lawrence started acting on a few television shows and then had breakout roles in Winter's Bone (2010) and X-Men: First Class (2011).

From there, she landed the role of Katniss Everdeen:

So, then a ton of non-sci-fi or fantasy movies later, she came back to the genre with Passengers (2016), the somewhat icky romance-in-space movie she made with Chris Pratt.

It was also on this day in sci-fi history that Ben Affleck was born. In Berkeley, California. Surprised? Yes, he was raised mostly in Boston, but totally Berkeley, team.

He was in Armageddon (1998):

Also Phantoms (1998):

And he's Bruce Wayne now. Fine.

If you see either of those two movie stars today, do wish them a happy birthday, won't you?

Tomorrow: Madonna's heart will go on.
