When Robert Downey Jr. posts a picture from the set of Avengers: Infinity War, even if it's just from catering, you can bet fans are going to analyze the heck out of the image. With 109,000 likes and over 44,000 retweets, it's safe to say the actor's picture on Twitter -- featuring Benedict Cumberbatch, RDJ, Mark Ruffalo and Benedict Wong enjoying a bite, La Croix, and ... some hot sauce we guess? -- has been viewed by a lot of fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Heck, even RDJ's hashtags play nicely into some Marvel Comics fun. As you can see in the image above, from Invincible Iron Man #3 (2015) (and the joke was repeated in issue #5), the team-up of Iron Man and Doctor Strange has been referred to as "Awesome facial hair bros," or as RDJ puts it to save space, "#beardbros." Meanwhile, the pairing of Bruce Banner and Tony Stark as "Science Bros" actually came from the films first, where fans latched onto the chemistry of the pair.

But outside of fun with hashtags that Tumblr can go crazy over, fans have also picked up on something else: Why does Tony Stark have a hole cut in his shirt? The holes in his shirts were typically to highlight the arc reactor in his chest, keeping shrapnel out of his heart -- shrapnel that he had removed in Iron Man 3. Why the hole then -- is he getting a nearly identical injury again? Is Thanos altering reality with the Infinity Stones to revert him to his previous status?

What many don't seem to be noticing, though, is the hole appears to be a triangle, not a circle. The triangular centerpiece of the Iron Man armor was seen in the first two Iron Man movies, but every version since has had a circular one. So this could be an indication of not another injury, but a flashback.

Of course, knowing Marvel Studios' secrecy policies (having been on sets, there are literally posters in every room, hallway and corner), it's almost certain that this image was approved by a PR person before it was posted. That could mean it's just a red herring, too, something he wears over a mocap costume or as part of one, or something tossed on just so people like us would write articles like this. And if that's the case, well played, Mr. Downey. Well played.

Avengers: Infinity War, from directors the Russo Bros., is shooting now for a May 4, 2018, release.
