The Batman stars not even sure if they're still in the movie anymore

With word that The Batman script is getting a total rewrite, it seems not even the film's would-be stars are aware if they're even still a part of the project.

Back when Ben Affleck was also planning to direct, his version of the script was set to introduce Joe Manganiello's Deathstroke as the main villain, while J.K. Simmons would return to play Commissioner Gordon after introducing the character to the DCEU with a small appearance in Justice League later this year. But, with the script getting a total rewrite from Chris Terrio (Argo, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), it seems they're not even sure if they're still involved.

While talking to Pittsburg Today Live, Manganiello was asked about his role in the project, and all he could say was: "Umm. Maybe. We'll see." Simmons talked about the film as part of a larger interview with ScreenCrush, and said "We'll see what the future brings," before adding that "hopefully that'll be another comic-book character that I get to take two or three or four cracks at." Which, yeah, doesn't really ring of confidence.

With DC and Warner Bros. retooling this one from the ground up at the script level, it's at least a few years until we actually get a peek at Affleck's solo Batman story — assuming it gets off the ground at all. At this rate, that wacky animatic might be the closest we ever get to Manganiello's Deathstroke. At least we'll always have Arrow.
