If you watch good genre shows, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve enjoyed a score by the legendary composer Bear McCreary — and now his Walking Dead work is finally getting a chance to shine, away from all the walkers and baseball bats.
Entertainment Weekly reports McCreary’s score for The Walking Dead will be released later this fall on “all formats” by Lakeshore Records and Sparks & Shadows. The track list will be culled from McCreary’s work across the entire series run, meaning we could see cuts ranging from anywhere in Seasons 1-7. Here’s hoping they go all out with the vinyl release with some zombiefied, colored pressings.
“Narrowing down the highlights from seven years of work was a tremendous challenge. I have distilled my choices to include tracks that are both frequent fan requests and my personal favorites,” McCreary told EW. “I am thrilled there is finally a way for fans of this global phenomenon to experience my music in an album format.”
McCreary has been a staple of the sci-fi genre the past several years, with his compositions helping frame our perceptions of everything from The Walking Dead to Battlestar Galactica, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Black Mirror and a whole lot more.
The Walking Dead’s eighth season hits in October, and we’d wager this release will probably land at some point around there, too.
