Warner Bros. scored a huge win locking down Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) to take over The Batman, and now Ben Affleck is looking to show a bit of unity within the DCEU.
Affleck tweeted out a congratulations to Reeves, who is taking over directorial duties from Affleck. Affleck was originally planning to direct and star in the solo Batman flick but stepped down from directorial duties to focus on his gig in front of the camera. When word broke that Affleck was stepping down, there was also a litany of rumors that Affleck was trying to find an out in his DC contract — meaning he could be done with the character after Justice League or The Batman.
With this post, Affleck seems to be making a statement to try to quell the rumors. Which is a smart move, regardless of whether things really are great behind the scenes or not. Hopefully, Reeves can bring some excitement and a fresh perspective to the DCEU. There's nothing fans would love to see more than a great Batman movie, and there's certainly a good chance that the team of Reeves and Affleck can pull it off.
