If you had to guess which film from 2017 would win the "Most Rented" superlative, you might place your bets on films like Wonder Woman, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, or maybe an animated film like Moana -- but you'd be wrong. The most-rented film of 2017 was The Accountant, starring Ben Affleck.

According to a new study released by the Motion Picture Association of America, The Accountant, which was released in 2016, beat out every other huge genre blockbuster released in 2017 to become the most-rented film on both DVD/Blu-ray and digital. The Accountant was released like at least five Marvel films ago, so this is a somewhat shocking revelation.

So which films did The Accountant beat out? Moana, Beauty and the Beast, Wonder Woman, Passengers, Logan, Arrival, and Guardians of the Galaxy all landed in the top 10 on either (or both) rental lists. And other genre films like Get Out, Kong: Skull Island, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 all made the top 25. The Accountant beat out every single one of them.

Maybe audiences are more willing to watch superhero and sci-fi films on the big screen, or maybe we've all been sleeping on the amazingness of The Accountant (which has a 77% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes).
