Black Lightning is set to electrify us later tonight when The CW’s new superhero series finally debuts. To whet our appetite for the Arrowverse-adjacent TV show, the network has dropped a series of videos and a clip featuring tons of new footage, including our titular hero taking his new suit for an action-packed spin.

When Black Lightning (which will be pulling some stuff from the source material) finally premieres on The CW following The Flash’s midseason premiere, our titular hero Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) will have been out of the superhero game for nine years. And for nine years, we learn his friend and father figure, Peter Gambi (James Remar), has been repeatedly pointing out him that the city needs Black Lightning (something the recently released sneak peek puts the spotlight on).

Despite the fact that Pierce gave up his vigilante ways years ago when it took a toll on his private life and is now working as a principal in a charter high school, concentrating all his energy on his students and his family, Pierce has no choice but to suit up again when his two daughters get in trouble with local gang The 100. Which will definitely make for some very interesting family dynamics. Thankfully, Gambi spent all those years designing a new suit for our hero, as revealed in the video centering on our main character.

The CW also unveiled videos centering on Pierce’s ex-wife Lynn (Christine Adams), as well as daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain). All of them feature some cool new footage to sink our teeth into and get us primed for the rest of the season. Check them out, and let us know if you’re looking forward to The CW’s first African-American-led superhero series.
