Black Lightning's Arrowverse references don't mean a crossover is coming

Sorry, Black Lightning fans, but there still aren't any plans for an epic Arrowverse crossover anytime soon.

There's long been speculation over whether we'll ever see Jefferson Pierce and family make the leap over to any one of the Earths that make up the vast array of The CW's linked superhero shows. But Black Lightning executive producer Salim Akil says that any mentions made in passing are just happening for the heck of it — so when Lynn and Jennifer Pierce happen to name-drop both Vixen (from Legends of Tomorrow) and Supergirl, it's just a fun citation.

"I thought it was just fun to tease the fans and have fun with the fans. We’re always trying to have a conversation with the fans, and we’re also trying to have fun with them, so that was part of that," Akil said, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

While Black Lightning has definitely made an effort to tease fans in terms of dropping easter-egg references to the other Arrowverse shows, that doesn't indicate that a crossover is imminent yet. Arrow's Stephen Amell even admitted that a crossover was likely, but who will travel where if one does happen? Akil seems to have an opinion on that as well: "If there’s ever a crossover, Supergirl will come to Freeland, or Green Arrow will come to Freeland."

Given that both The Flash and Supergirl have both made use of multiverse-crossing technology, it makes sense that their heroes may have to make the trip if a crossover with Black Lightning does come to pass — but again, that won't be happening in the near future, at least.
