While people talk about DC and Marvel Comics, it's always important to remember that a lot of the best panel-to-panel stuff is coming from more indie publishers. And while Image Comics is often hailed as the best of the creator-owned best, in the last few years another company has come along to breathe fresh and diverse life into the world of comics.
And that company is Black Mask Studios.
Whether it's superhero stories about racial profiling, wild space adventures with transgender protagonists, or a modern magical girl story featuring punk rock witches in detention, Black Mask Studios has been home to some of the most original stories and creators that comics have seen in a long, long time.
And Matthew Rosenberg, who we've spoken to previously about his work at Marvel, has had the chance to stretch his creative energy incredibly far at Black Mask, too, with books like Twelve Reasons to Die, We Can Never Go Home, and 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank. So after talking about Rocket Raccoon and Kingpin, I thought we should discuss what makes Black Mask Studios so great. And we did!
