Director Adam Wingard's Blair Witch sequel was just released on Blu-ray and DVD last week, and it will be interesting to see what its reception will be on home video after a lackluster theatrical release. Before you dive into its horrid happenings, you might want to check out a provocative fan video for the original film that casts the 1999 flick in a much darker light.

Whatever your feelings are on the found-footage indie horror sensation The Blair Witch Project, this eye-opening new theory explaining the possible real events of the film might alarm you ... or confuse you even more.

According to YouTube cinema fanatics The Film Theorists, the spectre of the Blair Witch out in the Burkittsville woods was only part of Josh and Mike's elaborate scheme to murder poor Heather, all orchestrated under the guise of supernatural happenings caused by the ghost of Elly Kedward. So since we never actually see an old crony lurking in the forest, she was never actually there and was simply a sinister plot device to commit homicide by luring the snotty-nosed girl into their diabolical trap.

This video first popped up last fall but it's new to us ... and through the magical backscatter effect of the internet, might be new to you, too.

[MILD SPOILER: The theory only holds water in the absence of events that transpire in last year's Blair Witch, but they're intriguing to digest nonetheless.]

Have a  listen and tell us if you believe the wicked witch exists or not!
