On my shortlist of comic book favorites this past year was Klaus, Grant Morrison (Arkham Asylum, The Invisibles) and Dan Mora's (Hexed) rousing epic centered around the immortal legend of Santa Claus.
The seven-issue miniseries just ended in August and was jam-packed with Old World charm and strikingly beautiful visuals all swirling like wicked Nordic snowflakes inside a superhero origin story that was equal measures of Conan The Barbarian, Batman Begins and The Lord of The Rings. Apparently I'm not the only super geek enamored of Morrison's revisionist Father Christmas adventure, as it was announced back in May that 20th Century Fox optioned the frosty fable for a big-screen feature film adaptation.
To help keep the momentum rolling and offer faithful fans and readers a little yuletide cheer, Boom! Studios announced last weekend at Baltimore Comic-Con that their studly superhero Santa would be dropping down their creative chimney this Christmas with Klaus and the Witch of Winter, a 48-page one-shot scheduled for Dec. 21. The Klaus hardcover collection with all seven issues included will be released in November.
Here's the solicitation description:
