The end of an era is approaching quickly, with Brian Michael Bendis' incredible tenure at Marvel Comics soon coming to an end. He's not retiring, just switching to DC Comics ... but the shift will be huge all the same.
Bendis recently teased what his final writings for Marvel may entail (he still has a little time to go before the big move), and he recently confirmed what his final projects will be in his lame duck period. The confirmation comes from his answer to a fan's question on his personal Tumblr page:
As he says in the post, "Not only am I writing issue 600 of Iron Man, but it is a substantially larger issue, and I think it will actually be my last Marvel comic. In many ways and on many levels ... it's kind of the perfect end to my time. I am genuinely looking at this, Spider-Man 240 and Spider-Men 2 number 5 as my final thesis statements."
There's no way to underplay just how important Bendis has been to Marvel Comics the past decade or so. He created some of the publisher's most successful new characters and revitalized property after property during his tenure. He may be leaving Marvel, but it sounds like he'll be going out with a bang.
