You might have to wait until October for Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, starring Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling, but that doesn't mean you can't satiate your desires for replicants, spinners and off-world colonies.
Check out this captivating trailer for a new crowdfunded Blade Runner-inspired fan film titled Slice of Life, showcasing some impressive special effects and that old Blade Runner magic.
Directed by Croatian filmmaker Luka Hrgovic, with a talented group of friends and assistants, the project needs $30K to complete final filming and post-production work (as well as to try to stay away from Warner Bros.' army of copyright infringement lawyers, who will no doubt have something to say about Hrgovic encroaching on their intellectual property). An official Kickstarter campaign will be launched in March to try to achieve their funding goals.
Here's an excerpt from an article at The Verge:
Hrgovic described the film as being about a "low-life drug dealer who tries to turn his life around but finds himself at the mercy of fate when he encounters a cop with an agenda of his own." The movie does'’t include the original film's Richard Deckard but follows the "lives of other characters that are trying to make a living in the dangerous streets of futuristic Los Angeles." When finished, he anticipates that it will be around 20–25 minutes long and that the film will be entered in some film festivals.
Do you think this crowdfunded project will meet its cash requirements, or will corporate attorneys quickly put the kibosh on the whole affair?
