Assuming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice manages to perform, Warner Bros. is already ramping up production on Justice League. But, we still don’t know who’s going to star in DC’s Green Lantern film. Now, one sci-fi alum is throwing his hat into the ring.
D.B. Woodside, likely best known to genre fans for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 24 and Lucifer, recently told Comic Book Resources he would love to land a superhero role — and he has his eyes on one in particular. Woodside said he’s recently been sporting some Green Lantern gear, sending a not-so-subtle message to DC about his interest. Which, yeah, he certainly has the presence to make a good John Stewart.
Here’s an excerpt from his comments:
"The whole series and the characters have always been one of my favorites. I grew up as a comic-book guy, so I love these characters. We're living in a superhero bubble right now that I am hoping will never burst. And, maybe I was wearing a Green Lantern t-shirt because I'm trying to get into the minds over at DC as they are looking for their Green Lantern. 'Open up and take a look at some others out here in Los Angeles.' That was my cheeky way of trying to influence them.”
So, does Woodside have a shot? Hey, stranger things have happened — though the actor notes he hasn’t actually auditioned for a role (though there’s no word on whether or not Warner Bros. is even casting for Green Lantern yet, so maybe no one has). We do know DC will be taking a wider, Green Lantern Corps. approach to the project, so it stands to reason we could get a big screen John Stewart.
What do you think? Is Woodside a good option for the role?
