That Tomb Raider movie just earned some serious credibility.
Marti Noxon is not a name necessarily known outside of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom, but having written many of the show's best episodes, Joss Whedon trusted her enough to hand her the keys for the last two seasons the show. Noxon also penned the surprisingly high-quality remake of Fright Night.
Meanwhile, Tomb Raider is enjoying a resurgence, thanks to its last game, which traded out the dripping-from-the-ceilings sex appeal for survival horror. Unfortunately, the previous two Tomb Raider movies were ... not great. They consisted mostly of Angelina Jolie smirking while wearing tight outfits. There are no real emotions (other than daddy issues), the plots are D-grade Indiana Jones, and there are giant robots, for some reason.
Thankfully, since the games are taking themselves more seriously, the new movie will be, too. And, yes, they hired Marti Noxon to write it. Thank goodness.
Noxon has a real gift for writing strong but vulnerable characters (both male and female), which is, frankly, what Lara Croft needs to be. So color us cautiously optimistic that we'll finally get a Tomb Raider movie worth seeing.
