Looking ahead to Avatar 2? (And Avatar 3, also, since James Cameron has said that he'd be filming those two sequels back to back?) Well ... we might have to wait a while, because the director just hinted this morning about a new project he might want to film first.
Cameron appeared on KTLA 5 Morning News today and said that we shouldn't expect to return to Pandora until 2014.
"I think three years would be the minimum, probably more like four from where we're sitting right now," he said.
But that wasn't the most intriguing thing to come out of the interview, since we already knew we'd have to wait for more Avatar, right? The bigger news was his hint of another movie that might delay the two sequels:
"There's a possibility I might make another film on a different subject in the meantime, because that's a big commitment of time for me. ... I haven't said anything about this publicly yet. It's a film that I've been working on kind of on and off over the years, just the writing. It might be something that I do first, or it might be something I do after that. I haven't really mapped it all out yet."
No matter how hard Cameron was pressed for details, all he'd reveal was that "the other idea that I have is more of a live-action film."
