Cate Blanchett may move into The House With a Clock in Its Wall. Talks are still early, but if it goes through, Blanchett would join Jack Black in the film based on the Young Adult book of the same name.
The book follows a kid named Lewis, who moves in with his uncle after his parents die. His uncle is a good wizard, but the previous owner of the house was an evil wizard who hid a clock in the house, counting down the minutes to doomsday. Lewis accidentally awakens the dead on Halloween (the best night to do so!) and the clock starts ticking faster and faster. The book was written by John Bellairs and illustrated by the infamous Gothic artist Edward Gorey.
Here is where things get interesting: The film is set to be directed by Eli Roth. This seems quite a departure for the renowned horror director, who made a name for himself with blood-drenched "torture porn" like Hostel and The Green Inferno. The script is being written by Eric Kripke, who created Supernatural.
Blanchett is a two-time Oscar winner for The Aviator and Blue Jasmine, who has appeared in plenty of genre fare over the years, including the Lord of the Rings franchise and the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.
