We've got a brand-new trailer for Atomic Blonde, Charlize Theron's new action movie, and good god does this thing look amazing. Theron is trading in Furiosa's metal arm for a pair of stilettos that are to die for. Literally. She kills a guy with her shoes. It is as amazing as it sounds.
Also amazing is the editing in this trailer. Taking a page from the early Suicide Squad trailers, the newest bit of promotion for Atomic Blonde also sets its scene against a pumping soundtrack and takes special care to make its cuts in all the right places. Every single hit, in a trailer full of impressive fight scenes, lands on the beat of the music. It's an immensely satisfying viewing experience.
Let's just hope the movie lives up to its promotion.
The film is based on the graphic novel The Coldest City, written by Antony Johnston and published by Oni Press. It follows Lorraine Broughton (Theron), a take-no-prisoners spy-type operative, as she attempts to find an "atomic bomb of information" and uncover an espionage ring, all on the eve of the collapse of the Berlin Wall.
Director David Leitch, best known for the gun-fu fighting John Wick, is helming the project, with a screenplay by Kurt Johnstad (of 300 and the upcoming Aquaman). James McAvoy, John Goodman, Toby Jones and Sofia Boutella also star.
The film made its debut at South by Southwest back in March and will open nationwide on July 28.
