Things have been relatively quiet on the Mad Max front in the wake of Fury Road, but star Charlize Theron said she’s open to coming back and reprising her role as Furiosa — and there’s apparently a script ready go.
In an interview with Variety, Theron said she would “love” to play Furiosa again in another Mad Max (or Mad Max-adjacent) film, but said it all falls to director George Miller to actually get another project off the ground. Fury Road was one of the best films of 2015, led by Miller’s insane vision of a dark, bombastic future lived on the road. It might’ve had Max in the title, but Fury Road was almost certainly Furiosa’s story, as she kicked a whole lot of butt while trying to liberate a group of young women.
Here’s an excerpt from Theron’s comments:
“I’d love to. There were three scripts. They were written as backstories to Max’s character and to Furiosa’s character. But at the end of the day, this thing lives and breathes with [director] George [Miller]. I think Warner Bros. knows that. We are all waiting for him to show us the way.”
Miller certainly left the Mad Max franchise on an exuberant high note, but we know this is a world he loves to explore — exemplified by the fact that there are a few additional scripts just sitting around for backstory.
What do you think? Would you like to see a Furiosa movie?
